India on Uzbekistan Cough Syrup Death: Indian cough syrup is claiming the death of children in Uzbekistan. After this claim of Uzbekistan, the Government of India (Indian Govt) has been alerted. The central government has sought a report on casualties in children in Uzbekistan after linking them to Indian cough syrup. This pharmaceutical company is allegedly being told of Noida.
Uzbekistan’s Health Ministry has alleged that 18 children have died in the country after consuming drugs manufactured by an Indian pharmaceutical company, months after a similar incident was reported in Gambia.
Central government started investigation
India has launched a probe after a Noida-based drug maker claimed to link the deaths of 18 children in Uzbekistan to the syrup. In this regard, the Central Government has sought a report regarding the death of the children. Officials said that the Central Drugs Regulatory Team has also contacted the UP Drugs Licensing Authority, so that investigation can be started against the pharmaceutical company. Meanwhile, sources in the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) have revealed that this particular syrup is currently not being sold in the Indian market.

18 children claimed dead in Uzbekistan
According to the information, the name of the company making the syrup is Marion Biotech. A company named Marion Biotech was registered in Uzbekistan in 2012. The Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan said in a statement that the children who died had consumed Dok-1 Max syrup manufactured by Noida-based Marion Biotech. The ministry said that so far 18 out of 21 children with severe respiratory illness have died after taking Doc-1 Max syrup. In the investigation, it was found that the dead children had taken this medicine 3-4 times a day for 2-7 days before being admitted to the hospital.
There was death in Gambia too!
The primary lab study has shown the presence of Ethylene Glycol in Doc-1 Max Syrup. It contains the same deadly chemical that was held responsible for the death in Gambia. Earlier, in October, the case of death of about 70 children in the African country of Gambia from cough syrup made in India came to light. After this, the Central Government had constituted a committee to investigate the matter.
